Recent news reports have highlighted the following catastrophes: wildfires in California; floods in the southeastern United States, especially Georgia; severe drought in Iraq; and, in the past few days, deadly floods in the Philippines, where Tropical Storm Ketsana has left at least 240 people dead in and around Manila. September 24, 2009. DREAM. Preeminent newsman Walter Cronkite, the “most trusted man in America,” hired me as his editorial research assistant. Honored to be selected, I was determined to work diligently at my new job. Handing me his notes, Cronkite gave me my first assignment: thoroughly research a series of items he was preparing for that evening’s televised newscast.
